Steps for Developing | An OEE System

When developing an OEE System the most difficult challenge is the capture of line performance data. Accuracy, consistency and timeliness in capturing performance data are the key areas that need to be addressed when developing an effective OEE System.

Areas for consideration when developing an OEE System:

  1. 1. Implementing the OEE System in Phases
  2. 2. Involve Employees
  3. 3. Keep It Simple

VersaCall Andon Systems offers more input, display and audio options than any other Andon System provider.  In addition to audio and visual notifications, communications to specific individuals for issues can also be integrated into the Andon System.

Step 1
Select equipment area or line to implement OEE Performance Reporting.

If OEE is not part of your current performance reporting, consider rolling out OEE performance reporting on a limited basis initially with the goal of rolling it out on a broader basis in the future.

Also consider implementing OEE reporting in phases. Start with the capture and reporting of availability. When reporting of availability is understood by all plant personnel, move onto Quality and finally Performance.  The VersaCall System is capable of capturing the data requirements for reporting OEE as well Availability, Performance and Quality individually. VersaCall suggests considering a phased approach for the purposes of plant personnel understanding the meaning and implications of the OEE data that is being published.

Step 2

Decide if you want to capture & report OEE performance by shifts, production days, production run or a combination of production activity and time periods.

Step 3

Finalize the formula that is going to be used to calculate OEE. If there are corporate guidelines for calculating OEE, review your formulas to insure that it is in compliance with the corporate formula.

Step 4

Identify production data must be captured to support the reporting of OEE Performance for the selected equipment, line or area.  After identifying what data needs to be captured, identify where, how and at what frequency the data is to be captured.

Step 5

Identify the data capture methods include the systems that need to be in place.

Step 6

Select the OEE Report formats

Step 7

Roll Out the System
