Application Objective
The system is designed to notify material support resources that material is needed on the production floor. The goal of the system is to ensure that there is always adequate materials on the production floor in support of production requirements.
Application Requirement
The light notification needs to be seen 40 yards ~ 120 ft distance.
The notification of material requirements must have multiple levels
- Out of Materials in 30 Minutes – Green
- Less than 15 minutes of Materials – Yellow
- Out of Material – Red

Determine what is the most effective communications in order to achieve the required notification of material requirement.
Proposed System
The system that is being proposed offers the following options for notification. It is up to the site to evaluate which of the options best supports the site’s communication requirements.
- RED, YELLOW, GREEN LIGHT NOTIFICATION
The line operator presses the button on the call station when he has 30 minutes of material left. The alarm stays active until material has been delivered. The Green Light comes on immediately – after 15 minutes the Green Light goes off and the Yellow Light comes in – after 15 minutes the Yellow Light goes off and the red light comes on. There is only one button push with the approach and the light sequence is a set time sequence with no over-ride if the operator forgets to press the button at the 30 minute mark.
- ON-SITE PAGING WITH TIMED ESCALATION NOTIFICATION
The operator has a choice of three buttons on the call box. 1- I need material in 30 minutes; 2- I need material in 15 minutes; and 3- I am out of material. A material support resource has a pager who is notified of both the location and when material is needed. For each of the three material requests there is different escalation timing since there are different levels of urgency for material.
- COMBINATION OF PAGING & LIGHT NOTIFICATION
The operator has a choice of three buttons on the call box as #2 above but each of the button have a specific color light that is activated 1- I need material in 30 minutes[Green Light]; 2- I need material in 15 minutes [Yellow Light] ; and 3- I am out of material[Red Light]. A material support resource has a pager who is notified of both the location and when material is needed.
